I do love Picasso’s ceramics. In my opinion, they are great evidence of his curiosity and passion for expressing himself in different media, his artistic genius that can be also applied on decorative and utilitarian objects, his research in art history and his broad visual culture.
I have recently stumbled upon a FB post by Christie’s (Collecting guide: Picasso ceramics) that is helpful to both general public and Picasso enthusiasts and collectors alike. There are some very useful tips regarding stamps and marking, the condition of the objects, Picasso’s techniques etc, but also a short overview of his work on different editions.
While at Christie’s site, you may visit the online auction page.
Some of my personal favorites are very fresh, bird themed objects (awls especially) and those made under influence of Ancient Greek, Etruscan, Roman and Pre-Columbian traditions.
